Taulia Tagovailoa getting opportunity with NFC team

There may soon be a second Tagovailoa in the NFL.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported on Sunday that former Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa is getting an oppportunity from the Seattle Seahawks. He is set to participate in Seahawks rookie camp next weekend.

Taulia, the younger brother of Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, went undrafted this year after spending the last four seasons at Maryland (having transferred from Alabama in 2020). As the starting QB for the Terrapins last season, the 24-year-old Taulia threw for 3,377 yards and 25 touchdowns but also got intercepted 11 times.

As for the Seahawks, they already have three other quarterbacks on their roster as it stands right now. Geno Smith is still their starter, and they also traded for ex-Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell last month. On top of that, Seattle just signed Chevon Cordeiro, an undrafted free agent out of San Jose State, earlier this weekend.

It is important to note that Taulia has not yet been signed by the Seahawks and is essentially just being invited in for a tryout. But he might be able to make a strong case from himself with some of the skills that we saw Taulia flash in college.
